    Registrar Frank Horton
    Chaplain Rev. Duncan Jones

*(Comp. Garner resigned in 2006, moving out of State)

From 2003-2008 the Chapter slowly grew and in 2004 began sponsoring an annual ceremony commemorating the adoption of the Halifax Resolves, which took place in Halifax on April 12, 1776. The event is held on the Saturday closest to April 12th at the site of the colonial Halifax courthouse, where the Resolves were adopted, and has been placed on the official National Calendar of SAR events. As a part of the 2004 ceremony, the chapter, in conjunction with the Grand Lodge of Masons in NC, marked the grave of Joseph Montfort, who was a prominent Mason and supporter of the Revolutionary cause. In 2006, the chapter marked the grave of Abraham Hodge, a prominent printer during the Revolutionary War era, who lived in Halifax. Hodge would today be considered “Washington’s press agent”.

During this timeframe, Compatriot Steve Avent served as Chapter President, and still serves as Secretary/Treasurer, Newsletter Editor, and Webmaster. He has attended many events on behalf of the Chapter occasionally accompanied by other Chapter Officers/Members. In 2007, Steve took on the added responsibility of NE District VP. During his term, he has organized the Northern Albemarle Chapter, NCSSAR and still serves as their Secretary/Treasurer.

Beginning in 2008, the Chapter marked the graves of Patriots Francis Rackley, Nathaniel Macon and Marcum Cooper. The 2008 ceremony commemorating the adoption of the Halifax Resolves featured NSSAR President General Bruce Wilcox as the principal speaker. Our first Knight Essay competition was held and a winner submitted to the State. For the first time Flag certificates were awarded by the Chapter and at the end of the year seven (7) had been awarded, the highest number in the State. Chapter President Ron Jones and VP Ken Wilson began doing speaking engagements on behalf of the Chapter. The first Eagle Scout Certificate was awarded by the Chapter.
