1.        The meeting opened by President Joe Harris announcing that some initial business would be held prior to lunch. At that time, He led the BOM and guest in the Pledge of Allegiance and the SAR Pledge. The Rev. A. Clark Wiser, State Chaplain then gave the invocation. The President the recognized the President of the Sons of the Revolution, Compatriot Frank Horton who brought greetings and announced continued support for the CAR. (The SR will give CAR $1000 for their President’s project this year) and the Representative of the Children of the Revolution, Katherine Horne who brought greetings from the State CAR chapter.

2.        The President then requested review of the minutes and since drafts had been posted ask for a motion for acceptance. Motion was made by Compatriot Bob Sprinkle and seconded by Compatriot Dick Bishop. Minutes were accepted as printed. Next the Treasurer’s report was presented and accepted on Motion by Compatriot Sprinkle seconded by Compatriot Grady Hall.

3.        Compatriot Gary Horne reminded the BOM that the $200 pledged for the CAR had not been received as yet. The Secretary will notify the Treasurer.

4.        The President then reported on the Fund Raiser for the year which was the Long Rifle and that a Compatriot in Kansas won the prize. Compatriot VP Sam Powell then explained the Calendar fund raiser for the coming year. The State CAR was the first to pledge $100 in support. Pledges were then made by individuals and Chapters as follows: Blue Ridge $100-Feb; Compatriot Sprinkle $100; Compatriot Joe and wife Gail Harris $100 for October; General Nathanial Greene $100-Mar; Yadkin Valley $100 for July; Mecklenburg $100 for May; Ed Privette $100 for Sep; Catawba Valley $100 for Jun; le Marquis $100; Bathabra $100 Oct; Bob Yankel $100 Dec. Following the pledges, Compatriot C.D. Williams was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of Past PG Roland Downing. Compatriot Harris presented the award for the PG Downing. At this point the BOM adjourned for lunch.

5.      Call to order was made and a drawing was held for a $10 gas card. Compatriot Sprinkle finally won.

6.     The Yadkin Valley war presented its Charter by the President. Chapter President Compatriot Ellis Hamby received the award on behalf of the Chapter. The General George Washington Chapter Charter will be presented at a later time. Two new chapters are expected in Elizabeth City and Statesville.

     7.     Delegates for annual Congress were selected. The following are recommended to be approved:

           Sam Powell, Frank Horton, Jay Stobb, Gary Horne, Grady Hall, Stewart Dunnaway, John  Misenheimer, Bob Owens, C.D. Williams, John                          Sullivan, Steve Pittard, Nat Clark, Ray Maxson,  Clark Wiser, Jeff Lambert, John Thornhill, Kurt Van Tassel, and John Robinson. The Secretary
           explained that we did not have our number of delegates yet but should soon.

      8.  Compatriot John Sullivan covered the State Convention to be held in Greensboro and pointed out
           that an application and map was in the BOM book.

      9.   The President then covered the Center for Advancing American Heritage challenge. This will be The National Society’s new home and library                       when built. A new Ed. Director has been hired. Work is ongoing to get the matching funds needed to start construction. Compatriot Ken Ingraham                 has established a matching challenge for up to 3000 during the next two months ending on 30 Nov 2007Compatriot Tim Berly is the State                           Chairman for the CAAH. The BOM will contribute $200 on a  motion made by Compatriot Maxson seconded by Compatriot Jim Becker.

  1.  The memorial membership question was explained by the Secretary. This a program approved by the  National Trustees which allowed deceased members of a SAR proposer, no further back than two positions to become members for one year. Compatriot Paul Teem requested an exception to the policy wanting to go on different lines from the patriot ancestor. This was disapproved by the National Representatives. A second request was submitted and the state chapter will again request an exception. 

  2. The By-Law change on page 37 was explained by Compatriot Clark. Since it is recommended for approval from Committee no motion was need and a 2nd was made by Compatriot Horne. It was approved for presentation at the Annual Convention. (Since that time it has been noted that this will be a Constitution change).

  3. Next Committee reports were rendered. Compatriot Powell stressed the need to get awards into him for deserving Compatriots. Two posters were presented by Compatriot Hall and the winner was selected. Compatriot Maxson announced that Eagle Scout Michael Kennedy was to receive that award.  The National Oration Committee will give each State Chapter who send a contestant $500 for expenses this year. Money will come from the GW Fund. The Flag Committee Chair, Compatriot Berly indicated that we need more chapters to participate if we are to get the streamer this year. Compatriot VP Powell announced that the 2011 Congress will be in Winston-Salem, NC. This was approved at the last Trustee meeting. Compatriot Hall announced the next slate of officers: President: Dr. Sam Powell, VP: LTC Frank Horton,: Secretary: Steve Pittard; Treasurer: Robert Owens; Registrar: Jim Becker: Chaplain: The Rev. Dr. Clark Wiser; Historian: John Thornhill; Genealogist: Dr. Randy Steele; Web Master: LtCmder Bob Yankle; Dev Officer: Tim Berly; East VP: Steve Avent; Central VP: Jeff Lambert: West VP: Ellis Hamby: Nominating Chair: Grady Hall: National Trustee: Clark Wiser: Alt Trustee: Steve Pittard.

  4. The president then urged the members present to use the BOM book as it has current addresses and names of Chapter presidents and committee chairs.

  5. The National Trustee then committed on the efforts that NC is making at the National level by attendance at the Trustee meetings and committee work.

  6. The meeting closed with the SAR Recessional.
