The Joseph S. Rumbaugh Historical Oration Contest is
open to all students attending home schools, public, parochial, or private high
schools in North Carolina who are in their sophomore, junior or
senior year of study during the contest year. The
rules and prizes are the same as those described on the National
Society website - with the exception that
transportation and lodging expenses for the North Carolina winner to compete at
the national SAR congress are not provided, and they must be borne by the
contestant, however, the $250 NC award and the $200 award to all national
contestants may be used to defray expenses.
The 2007 National Contest will be held in Williamsburg, Virginia on
Sunday, July 8, 2007. James

4. During the presentation of orations at
chapter, state, or national contests, no applause is permitted until all
orators have finished speaking. A.
Composition; B. Delivery; C. Significance; 7. The contestants must agree that the
interpretation of rules and the decisions of the NSSAR and its
judges shall govern without reservation. 9. The first place winner at the national level
of the Joseph S. Rumbaugh Historical Oration Contest may not
compete in its future competitions. 10. The first
place national winner is expected to attend the youth awards luncheon the day
after the final competition. The
luncheon will be on Monday, July 9th. AWARDS NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS: First
