This year, the celebration was marked not so much by who was not there (the South Carolina Society, as they were conducting their Annual Meeting), as who was - the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence. In a concurrent ceremony, the descendants of William Hooper and John Penn, both original signers of the Declaration of Independence, presented a memorial wreath to the memory of their forbears at the Signer's Monument located at the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park in Greensboro, NC. And while that ceremony was going on, members of the SAR and DAR carried out their own acts of remembrance. Color Guards abounded, the Guilford Courthouse Fife and Drum Corps was there, as were the Guilford Militia and the New Jersey Light Infantry. All in all, it was a good day to make an American Patriot feel right at home.
