Richard Caswell - Revolutionary War Commander, first Governor of the State of North Carolina, and President of the Provincial Congress that wrote the North Carolina constitution. In 2007 the state of North Carolina memorialized this "favorite son" by creating the Richard Caswell Memorial Museum in Kinston, NC. Charlie Broadway, a native of Kinston and an applicant to the Sons of the American Revolution contacted the North Carolina Society and asked if the NCSSAR would consider joining forces with the NCSDAR to hold a combination wreath laying/gravemarking ceremony in Governor Caswell's honor. Within a manner of weeks, news of the event was disseminated througout the State Society, plans were made, and the celebration was brought to fruition.
