I am decendant of Thomas Gunn and Starling Gunn who both fought in Rev War.. Starling fought with Lambs Regiment (Artillery) at Yorktown, Va.. Was at the Reenactment and have a feel for the times..I love my country and what it means to me..I still think that the fruits of liberty are to be protected and the harvest is in progress for we are getting away from the constitution and what it stands for..Each generation has the moral obligation to question the leadership when we feel that our forfathers wishes are being trampled on.. The blood spent for our independance was worthy and god only knows the cost. To perpetuate the memory of those that stood up and were counted is what every american should have first on his mind..jmh

Far too few Americans--or Britons--know how important The Battle of the Cowpens was. It was THE turning point of the War; we had been losing. If the good guys hadn't won, we might well still be British.

  Compatriots:

We received the following inquiry at the NCSSAR website - can anyone answer her question? I've got some personal interest in this because the William Ragland, Jr., she is asking about was married to the sister of my great (X4) grandfather. Thanks -

Steve Avent

"My name is Joyce Gayle Austin. I am the Great, great, great, great-granddaughter of William Ragland Jr. I am told that he was among the band of Whigs with Philip Alston during the gunbattle at The House in the Horseshoe where he was captured.

Is there any way I can verify this information?"

I am very proud of my ancestors who fought for American Independence. But what's more important is, would they be proud of me? The greatest tribute I can pay them is to support and belong to an organization that recognizes and pays homage to what they did.
