2. New Chapters. Petitions to charter a new chapter in the Washington/Greenville area
and in the Elkin/Jonesville area will be heard, discussed, and voted on at the fall BOM
meeting. A second new chapter organizational meeting in Elizabeth City, NC (Museum
of the Albemarle) is scheduled and it is hopeful a petition to charter will be prepared
soon thereafter. General Francis Nash Chapter (Chapel Hill/Hillsborough) is reactivated.
3. Observances. None for the period. The 226th anniversary observance (wreath laying) of

The summer season is normally a slower time of the year for our activities. This season has been
the exception. Expansion is on the horizon. Over the summer one chapter reorganized and is
now active again. Two new chapters are positioning themselves to charter this fall. And, a third
new chapter may petition to charter in early 2007. This was a busy summer for organizing
chapters. I have visited all of our active chapters except for two. I hope to visit the Bethabara
Chapter, and LTC John Phifer Chapter before the end of the year. Time is running out on our first
fundraising effort in years. The lucky ticket holder will be drawn in Yorktown, VA on the evening
of October 19th. To date, we have approximately 150 tickets remaining to be sold. I send my
deepest appreciation for those of you who purchased tickets. Thank you for helping further the
objectives of your society. As we prepare to begin another year of society activities, it is
important to have a chairman for each of our youth competitions. One of the most important of
these is the Eagle Scout Contest. If you are inclined to help coordinate this activity please
contact Senior Vice President Sam Powell or me immediately.
