Goal No. 1 - Membership.  It’s no secret; membership is like blood, no blood - no life.  The average age of a NC compatriot is up there in years and many of us will not live to see 2007.  We must aggressively recruit to replace our loses and to bring new men into our society – men that can be groomed for future leadership positions, men with innovative minds.  We begin this next term with approximately 600 compatriots.  Here are our membership targets:

·        By year’s end, increase total population to 675(+75)

·        By December 2006, increase population to 775(+100)

·        By March 2007, increase population to 800(+25)

The next 24 months, if this goal is to be achieved, will require serious attention by every chapter president and Area VP.

Goal No. 2 - New Chapters.  Across NC we have chapters in various states of condition.  Many are vibrant and others are not so fortunate.  Yet, with all these stages of evolution, areas within our society are ready to birth new chapters.  My objective is to establish as many new chapters as possible in each of our three areas – East, Central and West and, I challenge the Area VPs and chapter presidents to assist me in this effort.  Our goal is to establish at least one new chapter in each area of the society.

Goal No. 3 - Observances.  Within the state boundaries, we are blessed to have so many fine federal, state and local parks/monuments erected and dedicated to patriots of the American Revolution.  As a society, we annually conduct ceremonies to celebrate their contributions to earn independence and gain freedom from a tyrant.  These activities place us in the public’s eye.  We should be prepared to explain our purpose for honoring our ancestors and thus promoting Americanism.  My vision for the next two years is to increase compatriot involvement at all our Revolutionary War sites and anniversary celebrations.  Our goal is for each active chapter to be represented and to present a wreath at these observances.

These are our territorial sites. We NC compatriots are expected to demonstrate our respect by placing memorials in honor of the sacrifices our ancestors made for this colony/nation.  I ask each Area VP and chapter president to assist in this effort.

Goal No. 4 - Fund Raising.  I have set aggressive membership targets and as the total population increases so will revenues.  But, we should not depend upon dues for income.  Past President Hall appointed a committee (Development) to recommend ways of generating additional income and this was accomplished.  We (as a society) can implement more activities in our collective efforts to promote Americanism if funds are available to support that cause.  Our goal during the next two years is to raise $10,000 for use in the development of the society’s purpose.

Goal No. 5 Communications/Visits.  We do not communicate effectively and yet there is so much that could be learned from each chapter’s activities and experiences.  The flow of information from the officers will be pushed down through each Area VP and then out to the chapter presidents for dissemination to all active compatriots.  Increased emphasis will be placed upon the utilization of the society web site and newsletter.  The Communication and Publicity Committee (newly created) will coordinate the distribution of general information to all members.  Area VPs are ambassadors and create the conduit between chapters and the state officers.  Our goal is to broaden the reach and scope of information beyond just the Board of Managers.

Goal No. 6 - National Society Activities.  The energy expended promoting the purpose of the Sons of the American Revolution is misguided without a clear understanding of the National Society’s direction.  To that end, our National Trustee, Alternate National Trustee, National Committee Chairs, National Committee members and the State President will attend the Spring and Fall meetings of the National Trustees in Louisville, Kentucky.  Our goal is to encourage compatriots to attend these meetings, become involved and experience the fellowship of true patriotism in and out of state.

Goal No. 7State/National Conventions.  Our goal is to increase attendance at these annual conventions.  Outside of local meetings the society enjoys a State Annual Convention – normally conducted in March or April.  This is an open meeting and is the only time each year the general membership votes on matters requiring a decision to accept or reject.  It is the forum for the election of officers.  It is another opportunity to experience the fellowship of true patriotism and to engage in the exchange of information and ideas.  Those who attend are enriched.  Those not attending are missing the essence of membership in an up and coming society.  The National Society conducts a convention or Congress annually in early July.  Like the State Annual Convention, the annual Congress is a time and place for all compatriots to mass.  Imagine the enjoyment of a state convention magnified fifty times.
