December 15, 2005

TO:  Vice Presidents, Officers, and Chapter Presidents

FROM:  President

SUBJECT:  Quarterly Progress Report and Summary, October through December, No. 3

A.  Progress of Stated Objectives:

  1. Membership.  The goal is to enter 2006 with a minimum of 675 active members on the society’s roster.  On January 1, 2006, Harry Goodman, Treasurer, will drop from active membership all those members failing to remit dues.

  2. New Chapters.  Unchanged from the previous period report, however, I am still optimistic that one new chapter in the Western and Eastern Areas will materialize during 2006.  The General Francis Nash Chapter appears to be on the verge of reorganization/activation.

  3. Observances.  The 230th anniversary celebration of the Battle of Moore’s Creek Bridge (February 25, 2006), hosted by the Lower Cape Fear Chapter, and the 225th anniversary celebration of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse (March 18, 2006), hosted by the Nathanael Greene Chapter, are our activities.  All chapters should plan to present a wreath at these major society (Saturday) events.

  4. Fund Raising.  The fundraising goal is $10,000.  The 2006 Fundraiser is underway, and all monies generated from this project will be used to support the 2011 Centennial including the National Congress site.  Our Charitable Gift Program (CGP) is off to a great beginning.  Year to date CGP donations are $1,000.

  5. Communication/Visits. I intend on visiting each chapter annually.  On my visit to your chapter I will bring this message – “National and State Society Outreach Programs.” My travel itinerary is posted on the society web site (President’s Page) so please review it before scheduling me to visit.  I ask you to coordinate my visits through your Area Vice President.

  6. National Society Activities.  The Spring Leadership Conference/Trustees Meeting (February 24/25, 2006) in Louisville , KY is open to all interested members.

  7. State/National Conventions.  It has been confirmed that PG Roland Downing will attend the state annual convention (April 7-9, 2006).

B.  Period Summary.

The following positions need immediate fillers – volunteers needed:

Ø      Chancellor (attorney preferred).  Although not a demanding position, Chancellor is a great way to volunteer legal opinions, and the need for this specialized advice arises from time to time.

Ø      Eagle Scout Contest Coordinator (previous BSA experience is desired)

Ø      Partners in Patriotism Coordinator (must be a member of the American Legion)

The quarter has been an active period with numerous state level award requests, national observances, and chapter/state/national meetings.  At quarter’s end our strength is 722 (primary & dual members) compatriots.
